Privacy Policy

Kea has no backend, no telemetry and no analytics. It does not use the X API, and it never asks for, reads or stores your X credentials.

Signing in to X happens locally on your Mac, inside WebKit, through macOS’s own password, passkey and verification-code flows. Each account’s session and website data stay in WebKit and macOS system services on your machine. Nothing about your accounts is sent to us, because there is nowhere for it to be sent.

This site uses Umami, a privacy-focused analytics tool that we run on our own server. It records page views, the referring link, and coarse details derived from the request such as browser, operating system, device type and country. It does not use cookies and does not follow you across other websites.

We also run Umami’s session recorder, which captures how pages are used — pointer movement, clicks, scrolling and navigation between pages — so we can see where the site is confusing. This site has no sign-in and no forms, so there is nothing personal to type into it.

Both run on our own server. The data is not sold, shared with ad networks, or used to build a profile of you. If you block scripts, the site works exactly the same.

Supporting Kea happens on Ko-fi or PayPal, and giving to conservation happens on the NZ Nature Fund site. We never see or handle your card details. Those services, along with GitHub and X, have their own privacy policies.

If what we collect changes, this page changes with it, and the date above is updated. Kea is an independent open-source project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by NZ Nature Fund, the Kea Conservation Trust, or X Corp.
